Preppies
The teens of the 1950s were striving for an appearance different from their parents. Teenage preppy girls were more than likely found wearing a skirt or a dress. The skirt was a felt type material with a poodle design located on the skirt normally called poodle skirts. A poodle skirt was usually worn with a tight fitting shirt tucked into the skirt. The skirts or dresses that teenage preppy girls decided to wear were loose and free fitting, showing a sign of freedom for their teenage youth. Dresses that were worn were some what similar to what the older women were wearing, but had a more younger look for the teenage girls of the 1950s. But, if the girls weren’t seen in a poodle skirt or dress, they were caught in pedal pushes with a tight fitting sweater. Many girls would add scarf’s, ribbons, bobby socks, and would wear saddle shoes with their outfits. Preppy girls outfits changed what they wore in the 1950s, but so did their hairstyles. Preppy girls wore their hair in slicked back ponytails, poodle cuts (puffy hair-do), and would basically just poof their hair on top of their head.
Not only, were there preppy teenage girls, but you could also find teenage preppy boys. Teenage boys were found wearing baggy pegged jeans or blue jeans that had their cuffs of the jeans rolled up with a regular T-shirt or a sport shirt. While other preppy boys decide to wear blue jeans with V-Neck sweaters, also known as cardigans. Both of the looks were regular everyday outfits for the teenage boys. But in 1955, is when the pink revolution affected preppy boys. They started wearing pink shirts, pink socks, and pink striped or polka-dotted ties. The pink revolution took place all across the country. Teen boys had hairstyles that were crew cut, flattop, and the swooping ducktail cut (after Elvis Presley).

In the 1950s, Greasers became popular through out the country. Every high school had the bad boys or girls, that stood out from the preppies. Greaser guys were dressed in tight dark colored jeans, mostly black, a white T-shirt, a leather jacket, and to finish off their cool bad boy look, they would thickly grease back their hair. This look grew rapidly through the country, even rubbing off on the young teen girl, they became known as Greaser Ladies. Greaser Ladies dressed in dresses that were an inappropriate length for a young teen girl. They also wore heavy amounts of makeup and stocking with their short skirts. The hairstyle of Greaser Ladies were with their hair down and pulled backed or they had a short like haircut. Both Greasers and Greasers Ladies, topped off their cool outfit, with a pair of dark shade sunglasses.
